Work as a self-employed carer, at the rate you set

On VerriPro you set your own hourly or visit rate, choose your clients and hours, and get your documents checked once. Clients and care organisations near you find you by postcode, book in the app and pay through VerriPro. The platform fee is added on top for the client, so you keep the rate you set.

How VerriPro finds you clients

Working for yourself means finding clients, agreeing terms and chasing payment. VerriPro handles the finding and the payment, and you keep control of the work.

  1. 1

    Build your profile

In the VerriPro Provider app: your services, experience, specialisms, availability and the hourly or visit rate you set.

  2. 2

    Get your documents reviewed

Upload them once. The VerriPro team reviews them and collects two references before your profile goes live.

  3. 3

    Be found and booked

Clients search by postcode and see your rate and checks before they book. You choose which bookings to accept.

  4. 4

    Get paid after each visit

Once the client approves your timesheet, or the review window passes with no problem raised, you are paid.

What you keep: your rate, with VerriPro’s fee on top

You set your rate. VerriPro adds a 13.5% platform fee for the client, plus VAT on the fee where it applies. The client sees the total in £ before booking, and you are paid the rate you set.

An hour at £20

  • Your rate: £20.00, paid to you
  • VerriPro platform fee, 13.5%: £2.70, paid by the client
  • The client pays £22.70, plus VAT on the fee where it applies

Not sure what to charge? The self-employed carer rates guide gives the 2026 benchmarks.

The work you can take on

You list the services you offer and accept only the bookings that suit you.

  • Hourly visits

Personal care, medication support, meals and companionship, for an hour or a few hours at a time.

  • Overnight care

Sleeping or waking nights, for people who need someone there after dark.

  • Live-in care

Living with a client and supporting them through the day.

  • Shifts for care organisations

Care homes and other organisations can book you through the VerriPro portal.

Self-employed: you are paid to your own Stripe account after each visit and handle your own tax and National Insurance through Self Assessment.

Umbrella company (PAYE): you are paid through the umbrella company, which runs PAYE for you.

Either way, VerriPro does not employ you, and you keep your documents, insurance and registration up to date in the app. VerriPro reminds you before anything expires.

What you need to join, and VerriPro’s role

You upload your documents once in the VerriPro Provider app. A member of the VerriPro team reviews them before your profile can be found or booked. VerriPro is a platform, not your employer.

What VerriPro checks

Before a Professional can be found or booked, they upload these documents in the VerriPro Provider app and a member of the VerriPro team reviews them and approves the profile:

  • Photo ID and proof of address
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Qualifications and training certificates
  • Professional registration (NMC, HCPC or GMC) where the role needs it
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Two references

The checks are made on the documents the Professional provides. They are not a guarantee, so please still satisfy yourself that a Professional is right for the care you need.

VerriPro’s role

  • VerriPro is a booking platform, not a care agency or an employer.
  • Professionals are independent: self-employed or paid through an umbrella company.
  • Only Professionals approved by our team appear in search. If a required document expires, they cannot take new bookings until a valid one is approved.

How payments work

  • You see the total cost in £, including the VerriPro platform fee, before you book.
  • You pay through VerriPro, not the Professional directly. Card payments are processed securely by Stripe.
  • The Professional is paid after the visit, once the timesheet is approved. If something went wrong, raise it in the app within 3 days and the payment is held while we look into it.

What Professionals are responsible for

  • The care they deliver, and working within their training and registration.
  • Keeping their documents, insurance and registration up to date.
  • Their own tax and National Insurance, as self-employed Professionals or through their umbrella company.
